Made in 2006 and now streaming on\u00a0Netflix<\/a> (and evidently a version of it aired on the Lifetime network???), “Alone with Her”<\/a>\u00a0is one of the most gripping suspense thrillers I’ve seen in recent memory. \u00a0I’ve actually endured it THRICE now because I saw it once alone, and two more times on two other occasions with two separate friends (one male, one female). \u00a0It’s THAT interesting. \u00a0And nuanced. But I think I’ve seen it enough for now. \u00a0It’s a rough ride. \u00a0I mean, it’s essentially about the complete and total violation of an attractive, artistic, single woman named Amy (the delicious and talented\u00a0Ana Claudia Talanc\u00f3n<\/a>) by psychopathic, survelliance-equipment-savvy Doug (an unbelievably creepy, pre-“Dexter” Colin Hanks<\/a>). \u00a0I suppose you could consider this a “found footage” film… but I think it’s even more than that. \u00a0I think it’s a pre-emptive strike on the terrible act of stalking.<\/p>\n

I REALLY wanna make an independent film. \u00a0Ideally, a scary one. \u00a0And this one certainly proved that I could on a low budget. \u00a0Director Eric Nicholas<\/a>\u00a0seriously knows how to\u00a0dial up the dilemma-drenched dread.<\/p>\n

The above-mentioned <\/span>female<\/em> friend I shared this film with lives on her own and I thought it imperative\u00a0that she see this one. \u00a0Much to my surprise, she was totally open to it, as she isn’t often easily lured to the cinematic dark side. \u00a0My hope is the film inspired her to up the ante on her street smarts. \u00a0I think so. \u00a0I wimp-ly worry about ALL the women in my life, man. \u00a0Especially here in Los Angeles.<\/span><\/p>\n

WINE PAIRING: \u00a0What helped a third viewing of “Alone with Her” go down easier\u00a0was a most-refreshing\u00a0French Ros\u00e9 my friend generously picked up from Pace<\/a>. \u00a0I refused to polish the entire bottle but I most certainly could have. \u00a0I was that unnerved again by the film.<\/p>\n
