One thing I should make clear: \u00a0I am NOT a wine expert. \u00a0Since falling in love with wine back in 1996, I have been figuring this shit out as I GO.<\/p>\n

\"Dreaming<\/a><\/p>\n

Case in point, last evening’s tasting of the The Dreaming Tree<\/a> 2011 “Crush”, which is bottled in Geyserville, California. Now, I’ve never heard of this wine before. I don’t know anything ABOUT this wine. All I know is that it was on sale at the Vons<\/a> in Burbank for what I thought was a reasonable price. \u00a0And that I liked the look of the label. And the fact that the word “Crush” on the label looked like it was scrawled in crimson blood with a quill.<\/p>\n

The words “Red Wine” were enough for me. \u00a0That told me it was a blend of red varietals. \u00a0Whatever they gotta get rid of up there at the Dreaming Tree works for me. \u00a0Throw it all in one bottle, I’m not asking any questions. I just know I needed a red for the evening because my friend, Adam (aka The Counselor), was coming over and I know he’s a red man. \u00a0Okay, he’s primarily a Tempranillo<\/a> man, but much to my annoyance, the Vons chick in the wine aisle told me they don’t carry any Tempranillos, which is just stupid. \u00a0But whatever.<\/p>\n

Then this\u00a0went down…<\/p>\n

THE COUNSELOR: \u00a0So what’s the blend?<\/p>\n

ME: \u00a0(trying to read the label as I fumble with my readers) \u00a0It doesn’t say.<\/p>\n

TC: \u00a0It doesn’t say?<\/p>\n

ME: \u00a0No, it just says… Red Wine.<\/p>\n

TC: \u00a0Really. \u00a0Not 20% Zinfandel… 10% Merlot… et cetera?<\/p>\n

ME: \u00a0No, just (reading aloud) “CRUSH (RED WINE) NORTH COAST 2011”.<\/p>\n

TC: \u00a0North Coast?<\/p>\n

ME: \u00a0I don’t know! \u00a0Somewhere in the higher-up part of California.<\/p>\n

TC: \u00a0The “higher-up part”? \u00a0Huh. \u00a0But we still don’t know\u00a0what blend<\/em> the wine is?<\/p>\n

ME: \u00a0No. \u00a0Why? \u00a0Does that matter to you?? \u00a0Why does it matter?<\/p>\n

TC: \u00a0Dude, I’m merely a man asking a question. \u00a0I didn’t say it mattered. \u00a0I was simply curious.<\/p>\n

ME: \u00a0It’s a RED wine!<\/p>\n

TC: \u00a0So I’ve gathered.<\/p>\n

ME: \u00a0Well, what, are you saying you’re not interested in trying it now?<\/p>\n

TC: \u00a0Oh, I’m VERY interested in trying it now…<\/p>\n

Oh!<\/p>\n

Oh. \u00a0So, yeah, for a few minutes there, I wasn’t sure if the Counselor was in sync with me on trying this wine. Well, come on! \u00a0Whaddo I know? \u00a0People can be so fussy about what they like and don’t, I get insecure! \u00a0Even around my friend who I’ve known for well over two decades!<\/p>\n

But we tried it. \u00a0And we liked it.<\/p>\n

Yeah, I try EVERYTHING. \u00a0I don’t discriminate. \u00a0Price. \u00a0Label. \u00a0Vineyard. \u00a0Varietal. Bring it. \u00a0Wine is an adventure, man!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
